A beautiful wedding in Rye, East Sussex

Holly’s Mum originally got in touch with me to ask about wedding photography as she was on the hunt for local suppliers to Hastings, so I am very grateful to her for connecting me with Sarah + Holly! And what an awesome day it was!

They both got ready at The George in Rye, East Sussex, which is super handy for me running between rooms and meant I could capture the different aspects of the morning between both brides. I then wandered up to the Town Hall with Sarah and her family to be greeted by the town crier! It was a beautiful (and very emotional!) ceremony and it was clear to see that the whole room was just so thrilled for Holly + Sarah. We then had the classic town crier make his announcement, followed by confetti and some group photos. We then wandered to The George for drinks. In this time we went for a little walk around Rye for portraits, which is just the best town to photograph in. So many cute little spots for pictures, the options are endless! After we got back to the venue everyone sat down for food, followed by speeches, cake cutting and then lots of dancing! Easily one of the best dance floors of 2022 for me personally!

It was such a fun day and I am endlessly blown away that this is my job. What fun! Now some words from the couple -

Tell me about how you met, in as little or as much detail as you like. How long were you engaged before you got married? How did you propose?!

We met in Birmingham, where we were both studying in 2018, after matching on Tinder. We got engaged last year in November 2021. Holly proposed on the beach in Hastings, which is our favourite place to walk our miniature sausage dog Richmond (Richie for short). It was a complete surprise. We were so happy that we forgot to pay for parking and got a ticket!

Holly wanted to design her ring together. I told her her ring wasn't ready to collect yet and secretly picked it up so that I could surprise her with a mini proposal of my own a few months later in our flat in London.

What made you choose your wedding venue / location?

We really wanted to get married near Hastings, where we are planning to move as soon as we can and where Holly's family live. Rye is so beautiful I instantly fell in love with it, and the idea of having the town crier celebrate our wedding with us is something unique that I'm really looking forward too. The George has everything we wanted - character, elegance, ease, wheelchair accessibility.

If you could impart any words of wisdom to a couple planning their marriage and wedding day, what would they be and is there anything you would do differently?

Somehow we only realised we needed to give notice of our marriage when we had only three days left to do it, so we had to go to our local registry office and beg them to let us do it without an appointment. It wasn't ideal and caused a lot of stress but they did manage to accommodate us so I would say it shows everyone is kinder than you think they are! Definitely get it booked in well in advance though!

We weren't sure we wanted a hen do, but in the end had a joint fun night out with just a few friends in Hastings: a meal with family and then on to the bar for drinks and dancing. It was honestly the best weekend and I'm so glad that my future mother in law talked me into it!

What made you choose me as your photographer?

Your style, everyone always looks happy and at ease in your photos! Also your energy when we spoke to you on zoom was right for me. I also really wanted a woman photographer as I think we'd just both feel more comfortable that way.
