2020
What. A. Year.
I’m not going to dwell on what should have been, but let’s just say 2020 was certainly not our year, was it?! I did a bit of a roundup on my Instagram stories this week but I thought it would be nice to bring it over here too and do a bit of a photo heavy blog post.
Whilst this year held so many down moments for us all, it did bring us some highs too and I am going to try and stick with those highs and stay positive and not do too much dwelling. We absolutely adored spending so much time in our garden and all of Will’s hard work over 2019 really came into its own for 2020. We had visions of the Summer holidays out in the garden but instead we spent from April - September basking in the sunshine instead and making full use of our veg plot, the swing set Elsie got for her birthday and Wren learning to walk. It was a huge high and I still can’t believe how lucky we got with the weather. We all got the paddling pools out in April to entertain the kids and yet a few years ago we had spurts of snow in April! Someone up there must have known we needed some Vit D to see us through.
Doorstep portraits filled our newsfeed and it was so wonderful to see so many photographers staying creative during such a low time. I jumped aboard the portrait train and absolutely adored meeting new faces and seeing so many old ones too. I discovered cute little streets of Hastings I never knew existed and got to (briefly) chat with so many local families and learn about their stories and their lives. And it is so nice being out and about in town now and bumping into these people! I managed to raise nearly £300 for The Trussell Trust which was so beneficial at such a hard time for the country.
We explored our local area, we discovered a love for the ordinary things in life. We learnt to love a little harder, care a little more, be kinder, more considerate and to just sit with whatever life throws at us. I think 2020 made us more resilient and accustomed to change. It made us value our friends and family in a whole new way and be grateful for technology…! Social media has its moments but being able to see what everyone was up to was such a comfort for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the little check ins with strangers as well as friends.
I am just going to dump our year in photos here… There’s a lot. So if you make it to the end then you win a gigantic high five.
I can’t wait to share 2021 with others, hopefully photograph some weddings and a whole heap of families.
Sending all the love, no matter if you thrive or dive in these very odd circumstances, we can definitely see the end of the very long and dark tunnel now.
