Nia + Stephen - A beautiful wedding in the Welsh countryside
Nia + Stephen’s wedding, nestled in a little village along the west coast of Wales, was a complete joy to photograph. From start to finish there was a tremendous amount of love all around, so many friends and family helping out and there was this total infectious buzz everywhere. I absolutely love loud and busy so 200 guests all around long trestle tables chatting away and catching up is just a (much, much) bigger version of my every day life.
I was lucky enough to have my partner in life alongside me shooting, and we both adore working together. (We are indeed that couple who still can’t get enough of each other’s company) Will went to the guys for the morning whilst I stayed with the girls. Just a corridor apart, there were a lot of laughs and a lot of tears too! Stephen had made a video with loads of messages from friends and family who couldn’t make it to their day and it was quite the emotional ride!
Once everyone was ready we headed off to a gorgeous church nearby, where Will took top deck and I stayed down with the crowd. The bonus about having two photographers photographing your wedding is that you get two completely different perspectives of your day, as you will notice in the pictures below! One photographer can’t be everywhere but two can definitely do a good job of scanning a vast space!!
There were so many personal touches to this day too, from everyone tying knots in fabric during the ceremony, to playing everyone who had already got married 1st dance songs during the meal. Each part of the day was carefully thought out and beautifully executed.
After the ceremony we headed to a nearby beach, which was pretty much deserted and we had the whole place to ourselves. We took some fun portraits, in the brightest of sunshine, and then headed back to Florin for the rest of the day.
A huge selection of Ghanaian food was demolished by all in between speeches from those close to the bride and groom. The marquee was full of laughter! We managed to catch some gorgeous golden hour beauty between courses too and these are some of my favourite portraits of 2019!
The party was of epic proportions with an awesome band supplying the music. I had no doubt that the dance floor would be packed and I could have photographed it all night!
A few words from Nia + Stephen -
Tell me about how you met…
We met in Australia whilst working on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in November 2015. We were pretty inseparable even before we got together and after a week of knowing each other the inevitable happened we got together and haven't looked back since. We moved in together after a year in January 2017. We and got engaged in August 2018 in Babacombe Bay in Torquay. With various jobs meaning we were away from home lots between our engagement and our wedding we quickly picked all our main suppliers which made the planning quite easy.
What made you choose your wedding venue / location?
We wanted to be married in Nia's home country of Wales, we wanted somewhere with no corkage and no curfew. Plus we wanted somewhere we could have a weekend rather than one day as it's so far we want to spend as much time with our friends as possible.
If you could impart any words of wisdom to a couple planning their marriage and wedding day, what would they be and is there anything you would do differently?
Don't stress. It will cost a whole lot more than you think it will cost!
And a couple of words about their photos…
Thanks so so much for these. We love them and it's lovely to look at so many parts of the day that we couldn't see with our own eyes.
All the colours are lovely and you guys really captured the mood and the love for the whole day.
A huge huge thank you to Stephen + Nia for choosing me to photograph your day, as you can tell we had an absolute blast!!
