Sam + Nick’s gorgeous wedding at Preston Court in Kent

09-08-19

Sam and Nick got married in the very wonderful Preston Court in Kent. This venue really has a bit of lovely for everyone and I really enjoyed shooting my first wedding there this year! Fun, beautiful and lots to do - what is not to love about a wedding venue!

I managed to squeeze in both bride and groom prep for Sam and Nick which is always really awesome. I feel like a lot of the shine is typically on the bride so it’s always lovely to tell an equal story. Although there is far less make up involved (usually!) it’s still really good to get to know both sides of a wedding! Both Sam and Nick got ready in Air bnb’s and were both gorgeous houses with plenty of space and natural light.

We then headed over to Preston Court where Sam and Nick got married nestled in the Willow Trees with all their friends and family watching across the lake. Lots of drinks and canapés followed and we squeezed in a few formal group portraits too.

The carousel opened up in the afternoon which made for some really cool pictures, and obviously lot’s of laughs for guests! We were then all seated in a big barn where I then became entirely obsessed with the seating plan. A big wooden board with little terracotta pots on filled with succulents with everyone’s names on the side. Grab your pot, and find your seat. The table numbers were on the bottom of each pot! It was such an original and cute idea and gosh I love a terracotta pot.

The food was delicious, the speeches were great and the sun shone all day. It really was such a gorgeous day to be a part of - rounded off with a saxophonist and lots of dancing. We managed to nip out for 10 minutes or so of portraits too, the lake made a perfect setting and we nipped back under the willow trees too!

All in all, a ruddy lovely day.

I always ask my couples a few questions for my blog posts so here is what Sam + Nick had to say…!

Tell me about how you met…

We met 9 years ago through work and then we got engaged in July 2018. Nick arranged for us to go on a canal boat as a surprise weekend away and we were having real trouble turning the thing around! We got stuck in the reeds for about 40 mins and when we finally got free and were trundling along, he got down on one knee. We were hit by a storm a few minutes later and were forced to stay over night at the side of the canal in the middle of nowhere with no dinner and no way of getting to any restaurants or food. We settled for 2 boiled eggs and a bottle of wine - we were clearly not prepared! It was still amazing.

What made you choose your wedding venue / location?

It's just so unique. We didn't see any others like it and it has real character with the old steam trains, the vintage organs and the carousel.

If you could impart any words of wisdom to a couple planning their marriage and wedding day, what would they be and is there anything you would do differently?

Don't drag out the planning over several years. Better to keep it short so you can enjoy it.

What made you choose me as your photographer?

Just loved your pictures. They're natural and not too staged. They're amazing.

And that’s it! Thank you SO so much to Sam and Nick for having me along to celebrate with you trusting me to photograph your wedding. Here’s to many many years of happiness and laughter!

Enjoy!
